TMZ has learned. Law enforcement sources tell us ... California Highway Patrol officers initially flagged the 27-year-old singer's 2013 BMW X6 for speeding and tinted windows next to an L.A. freeway around 2:15 AM.
During the stop, officers noticed the smell of booze ... and performed various field sobriety tests, which he flunked.
Miguel -- full name Miguel Jontel Pimentel -- also took a breathalyzer and blew a .10 and .11 ... which is over the .08 legal limit in CA.
Miguel was then arrested for DUI and hauled to a nearby station where he was booked ... and released a few hours later on $5,000 bail.
According to his booking sheet, Miguel is 5'7" and 140 pounds.
He's scheduled to appear in court in September.
